Exam Stress

Overcome exam stress

Everyone can feel stressed while preparing for important tests or exams, this stress can make us feel tired, under pressure confused and anxious about the outcome. In most cases this is normal and can encourage us to put that extra bit of effort in and try a bit harder, remember there is such a thing as good stress!

However, too much stress or the way we deal with this stress can make us feel really bad. Meaning we worry more than we should and do not concentrate on our preparation as much as we could. The way we deal with this stress is very important, but people often deal with stress in a way that is unhelpful, for example ignoring the problem, focussing on failure, and under preparation, all of this can add to the anxiety felt and some people have been known to skip exams due to feelings of anxiety or have moments during the test where focus and intention levels drop to the point where our mind goes blank.

Its easy to ignore and “soldier on” but if you think you might be stressed a few signs to look out for include:

  • Struggling to sleep
  • Having negative thoughts about the future
  • Getting headaches and feeling generally unwell
  • Not eating due to how you are feeling mentally.
  • Always thinking about the upcoming exam in a worrying way,
  • Not enjoying everyday activities that would usually bring you some joy.

The good news is, preparing for an exam and managing stress levels is something you can get help with.
